New report “If Only You Knew” The school experiences of siblings of disabled children
Children and young people growing up with a disabled brother or sister often get less attention from parents and have more worries and responsibilities than their peers. Many siblings tell us that school would have been a very different experience for them if only their teachers had been aware of some of the challenges they faced. In childhood, the sibling experience can affect a child’s attendance, educational attainment and impact on friendships and social life. Being a sibling is a unique experience that extends across the lifespan – it is a role that requires specialist attention and care.
